Scotty Moore & D.J. Fontana
1999 Tour Dates

Legendary guitarist, Scotty Moore and drummer, D.J. Fontana, will be appearing throughout the world in 1999. Moore & Fontana are considered two of the most influential musicians in rock music, backing Elvis Presley from 1954 through to the 1968 Comeback Special. Moore began with Presley from his first audition and the session, in July 1954, that yeilded "That's Alright Mama" and changd the face of rock music and the course of pop culture, forever. Moore became Presley's first manager as well as band leader. Fontana joined Presley, Moore and the late bassist, Bill Black, a few months later and began recording with them following Presley's signing with RCA. Moore & Fontana kept a low profile following their separation from the Elvis camp and throughout the two decades following Presley's death. Neither musician cashed in on the Presley phenomena, as did many of the circle that surrounded the king of rock and roll. Moore retreated to a recording console, engineering and producing many great recordings in Nashville, Tn. shunning interviews and personal appearances. Fontana, likewise, made his living as a session drummer in Music City, ocaissionally appearing at functions to meet fans and speak about his former boss.

In 1996, Moore & Fontana returned to the studio as artists and later, as touring musicians. The release of "All the King's Men" garnered the duo a Grammy nomination and landed them on many critic's year end polls. They even took home a Nashville Music Award, bypassing the city's platinum artists. Special guests on the recording included Rolling Stone's Keith Richards and Ron Wood, The Band, Jeff Beck, The Mavericks, Steve Earle, Joe Ely, Tracy Nelson, Joe Louis Walker, Ronnie McDowell, The Jordanaires and a reunion of the Bill Black Combo.

Moore also penned his autobiography, "That's Alright, Elvis" and, with Fontana, toured the US and special dates in Europe, appearing with the Rolling Stones in Hamburg, B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Ruth Brown and more in LA and turned in a fiery performance on NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
After each gentleman suffered heart attacks at various times in 1998, it looked like the touring days were over. Not to give up that easily, Moore & Fontana have gotten themselves in shape are planning their biggest year yet. A major tour of the UK is confirmed for April and May. Supporting Scotty Moore & D.J Fontana will be UK musicians Pete Pritchard, Peter Davenport and Liam Grundy. Material will be selected from the Elvis Presley Sun & RCA sessions that included Moore & Fontana, as well as numbers from "All the King's Men." Special guests are expected to appear at various venues on the tour. Dates are being set for European concerts for May and June, culminating with a special invitation from the Rolling Stones to appear as guests at their Wembley Stadium concerts in June.

Scotty Moore & D.J. Fontana are currently completing the long-awaited documentary, "The Power Behind the Throne." The film is a look at the careers of Moore, Fontana and Black and the making of their comeback recording. Producer/manager, Dan Griffin, expects to premier the film with Moore, Fontana and special guests at Tupelo, Ms. Elvis celebration on August 7, 1999. The combination concert and film presentation will also appear at Graceland on August 14 and dates to be announced at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and Lincoln Center in New York City. Ronnie McDowell and Sun veteran Sonny Burgess will appear on the US dates.
